What’s the difference: OBGYN and an OBGYN Sonologist?

I visited an OBGYN to complete a medical exam that our company asked us to accomplish last week.  While the procedure was on-going, I couldn’t help but notice my doctor’s lab coat that indicated “OB-SONO” beside her name. Our procedure was so intensive I forgot to ask her about it so I did my own research.

According to our friend, Google: An obstetrician-gynecologist (OBGYN) is a medical doctor specializing in women’s reproductive health, providing comprehensive care for conditions related to the female reproductive system, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. They diagnose and treat various gynecological issues, perform surgeries like hysterectomies and cesarean sections, and offer prenatal care and delivery services.

On the other hand, a sonologist, also known as a diagnostic medical sonographer, is a healthcare professional trained in using ultrasound technology to produce images of the body’s internal organs, including the female reproductive organs, to aid in diagnosing medical conditions and monitoring pregnancies. They specialize in performing ultrasound examinations to assess fetal development, detect abnormalities, and assist in guiding medical procedures. While OB-GYNs manage overall reproductive health, sonologists focus specifically on imaging and diagnostics using ultrasound technology.

Eluvo has a roster of OBGYN and OBGYN-Sonologists that I met during their grand launch. I got to chat with them (which was pretty awesome because I learned some tips from them!) and I suggest that you do too. Visit their profile here: eluvohealth.com/about-eluvo#team
